Dr. Stephanie Fernyak

Dr. Stephanie Fernyak is the Medical Director and owner of Bear Creek Veterinary Care.

After receiving her DVM from the prestigious Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Fernyak completed a small animal internship in medicine, surgery, and oncology at CSU.  Moreover, Dr. Fernyak has completed research fellowships in heart and lung disease both through The National Institutes of Health and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  She was also awarded externships at Oregon State University and on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska.

Prior to establishing her Colorado Springs veterinary practice in 2002, Dr. Fernyak held the title of associate veterinarian at a private practice in Colorado Springs.  During her time spent working as an associate veterinarian, she realized that much of what was being asked of her did not meet her own expectations of providing a superior quality of care and service to patients and clients.  She quickly realized that if she was going to meet her own high expectations for quality of care and service, she would have to build an organization from the ground up.  In 2002, that is exactly what she did and she is extremely proud of what the organization has been able to accomplish since that time.  “Colorado Springs is an amazing community and being able to improve the quality of life for our clients’ pets by providing a level of care that is uncommon in our industry is what I love most about my job as both a veterinarian and business owner,” she proclaims.  “Of course, there is no way the organization could be as successful as it is without the knowledge, skill, compassion and dedication of the wonderful staff at Bear Creek Veterinary Care.”

When not at work, Dr. Fernyak enjoys spending time with her husband and son and her pets.  Of course, she also saves time for her other favorite activities which include mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, backcountry skiing, going to the symphony, reading, and keeping bees.  Of special note, she is presently growing an organic orchard on the city’s west side.  When her orchard is mature, her goal is to donate the fruit to local school districts for their lunch programs.

Dr. Ashlee Bruewer

Growing up around a slew of dogs, cats and horses, Dr. Bruewer always wanted to have a career involving animals. Her free time growing-up was spent riding, showing and teaching horseback riding lessons at a hunter/jumper barn in Michigan.

As an undergraduate student at Michigan State University, she majored in Genomics and Molecular Genetics and worked for the Comparative Ophthalmology laboratory at the College of Veterinary Medicine. At that time, Dr. Bruewer was able to work with an excellent team of researchers and veterinarians studying new methods for treating genetic disorders of dogs and cats- knowledge that is also applicable to children suffering from similar ailments.  Her love for science and for animals merged as she entered the Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine program, also at Michigan State University.

During her time at MSU, Dr. Bruewer discovered her absolute love for clinical veterinary medicine, and the relationships formed with her patients, clients and their families.   It is her goal that every one of her clients leaves the hospital with all their questions answered and concerns addressed.  She is absolutely thrilled to continue to forge strong veterinarian-client relationships at Bear Creek Veterinary Care.

After graduating from MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Bruewer completed a one year internship at a busy, mixed animal hospital in southwest Colorado.  During this year, Dr. Bruewer gained extensive experience with innumerable emergency situations, soft tissue surgery as well as challenging internal medicine cases- in animals big and small!

Dr. Bruewer’s special interests include nutrition, weight management, pain management, behavior medicine, soft tissue surgery, reproduction and preventive medicine.

Outside of work, Dr. Bruewer enjoys spending time with her dog, Robert the Bruce (aka Robbie) and her cat William Wallace (aka Wallie), hiking, climbing 14ers, traveling (most recently to Ireland and Scotland!), and photographing anything and everything.  Dr. Bruewer hopes to continue to improve her photography skills and one day be able to have a gallery showing of her work!  Her other goals include learning to rock climb and to summit at least 3 more 14ers this year!
